Brrrrrrr. Summer weather may be a thing of the past with the first freeze warning issued for the Shenandoah Valley for early Friday morning.
The freeze warning was issued by the U.S. National Weather Service for western Virginia, portions of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia.
The warning is in effect Friday from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. as sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected.
According to the NWS, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS suggests taking steps now to protect tender plants from the cold by bringing potted plants inside or covering other plants with a lightweight cloth overnight. The cover should be removed in the daylight to allow sun to warm the plant.
A frost advisory had been issued for the same regions Thursday morning from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m.
