DH Tony Renda supplied the game-winning RBI-single in the top of the 13th inning as the Potomac Nationals (11-9) beat the Frederick Keys (10-13) on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. Renda’s single off Keys’ reliever LHP Lex Rutledge (L, 3-4) scored RF Estarlin Martinez to break the 1-1 tie.
Both teams plated their runs in the seventh inning to send the game to extras tied at one. In the top half of the inning, LF Randolph Oduber singled to lead things off. After a SS Stephen Perez sacrifice bunt and 2B Khayyan Norfork groundout to put Oduber at third, RF Justin Miller broke the scoreless drought with a single. Oduber was the only P-Nat with multiple hits in the game. He went 3-for-6 with a double.
Frederick answered in the bottom of the frame when SS Adrian Marin came home on a LF Mike Yastrzemski sacrifice fly. Marin and 2B Jerome Pena each collected three base hits in the 13-inning contest.
The P-Nats pitching staff was excellent throughout the game. RHP Ian Dickson started the game off with five scoreless innings. LHP Kylin Turnbull allowed a run on three hits over his three innings of work. RHP Richie Mirowski followed Turnbull with four strikeouts, two hits and no runs over three more innings. LHP Jake Walsh (W, 1-0) put up two scoreless frames to close out the game.
The Potomac Nationals Baseball Network, which is accessible at www.potomacnationals.com, will broadcast the final game of a four game series at Frederick on Monday, July 14th. Broadcast coverage will begin with the P-Nats Leadoff Show at 6:45pm in preparation for the 7:00pm start. Pitchers for both teams are TBA.
