Poll: Obama leads Romney in PA by eight Public Policy Polling’s latest survey of Pennsylvania voters has President Barack Obama leading Republican rival Mitt Romney by eight points.
The 50 percent-to-42 percent lead is basically identical to the 49 percent-42 percent lead that Obama had over Romney in a March PPP poll.
Key to the Obama advantage is his relative popularity – with 48% approving and 49% disapproving of the job he’s doing as president, while Romney has 37% of voters rating him positively to 51% with a negative opinion.

Susan Allen campaigns in Central Virginia Susan Allen today brought her statewide campaign for George Allen for U.S. Senate to Central Virginia, beginning with a town hall lunch meeting with local families and small business owners at Blue Ridge Café in Ruckersville.
Family-owned and operated since 1995, Blue Ridge Café owner and chef Shawn Hayes counts his small business as part of a life-long dream.
In the afternoon, Allen toured small businesses in Ruckersville to see and hear firsthand the central role of small businesses in the community and the concerns they face in a struggling economy. Susan Allen’s Ruckersville small business tours included D&D Floor Coverings store, Corner Store Garden Center, and Boot’vil, a western wear store.
“I’m inspired by each small business owner’s story of how they made their dreams reality with hard work, determination and the freedom to succeed,” said Susan Allen. “These businesses are a part of who they are, their family and community, so Washington’s policies aren’t just business, it’s personal to them. Uncertainty of tax obligations along with growing red tape and regulations are compounding the challenges business owners face these days. That’s why George is ready to be their voice in Washington to free them from the federal government’s overreach.”

Following the small business tours, Susan Allen is traveling to Palmyra, Virginia to talk with farmers and area residents at the Fluvanna Farmers’ Market, open each Tuesday to feature local produce, products and art.
In the evening, Susan Allen will headline a “Politics on the Porch” event at the home of Carol Ham in Keswick, Virginia. This event is part of a statewide series of “Politics on the Porch” meetings Susan Allen is holding to bring together neighbors and friends to discuss the important choice for Freedom voters will make on June 12 and November 6 this year.
Kaine responds to Senate’s failure to vote on Tavenner In response to a report from the Wall Street Journal yesterday noting that the Senate will not hold a confirmation hearing for former Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources Marilyn Tavenner to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Tim Kaine released the following statement:
“I’m not sure which is worse – that the Senate doesn’t feel the need to hold a confirmation hearing for the person in change of the largest single line item in the federal budget or that it’s an open question whether someone as qualified as Marylin Tavenner could get confirmed in this political climate. For six years, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has operated without a confirmed Administrator, leaving this vital department in a state of limbo and preventing the organization from making the long-term adjustments necessary to ensure its viability. That’s unacceptable.
“In 2006, I appointed Marylin as my Secretary of Health and Human Resources because of her experience as a nurse, nursing supervisor, hospital CEO, and health care executive as well as her pragmatic, results-oriented approach to solving problems. She served the Commonwealth with distinction during her four years and is an exceptional choice to head CMS. Virginia’s General Assembly confirmed Marylin to her post as head of Health and Human Resources because she was supremely qualified for the position. The U.S. Senate should take a page from Virginia’s book and vote to confirm her as the next CMS Administrator.
“As a U.S. Senator, I’ll support reforms requiring that nominees receive an up or down vote within a reasonable time-frame. At a minimum, the Senate should afford the same consideration to Marylin.”
