Play for Preemies ShowcaseThe Western Albemarle High School girls’ basketball program is hosting the Play for Preemies Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 5.

The showcase, organized by Western Albemarle girls’ basketball coach Kris Wright, has a personal story behind it.

Kris, the editor of TheSabre.com, a popular UVA sports blog, and his wife Heather’s children were born premature.

The showcase, now in its third year, is an effort to raise awareness and funds for premature birth at the UVA Children’s Hospital and Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital.

In the first two years of this showcase event, the program donated more than $6,500 to the hospitals, including $5,600 from last year’s event.

Where you fit in

The effort is ongoing to partner with individuals and businesses to sponsor the showcase.

If you would like to partner with the Play for Preemies Showcase, please contact the WAHS girls’ basketball program through westernalbemarlesports.org or at 434-823-8705.
