After the activation of a fire alarm, a local high school was evacuated Monday afternoon.
According to a Page County Public Schools announcement via email and social media, at approximately 3 p.m., the Luray High School fire alarm system was activated.
Students and staff were prompted to quickly leave the building – even if that meant leaving belongings behind. Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators dismissed students for the day via school buses, parents, and personal vehicles.
Emergency personnel scoured the building for potential threats. A second PCPS announcement at 4:30 p.m. advised students and parents that emergency personnel had given the “all clear.” They also advised that staff would remain on-site until 5 p.m. for those who wished to retrieve any belongings.
There was no indication that the incident would affect classes on Tuesday.
