ODU men’s basketball releases full 2015-2016 schedule

odu logoOld Dominion University head basketball coach Jeff Jones announced today that the Monarchs will play 13 non-conference contests in addition to 18 Conference USA games in 2015-16. The non-conference schedule features Purdue, VCU, William & Mary, Norfolk State and Richmond as well as a trip to the Mohegan Sun Arena as part of the Basketball Hall Of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in November.

“We set out to make our non-conference schedule even more challenging this year than last season, which is really saying something,” said Jones. “There is no question we succeeded. Our squad will certainly be battle tested when we enter C-USA play in January.”

The Monarchs 31-game slate features 16 home contests, five NCAA tournament teams from 2014-15 (Purdue, Buffalo, VCU, Georgia State and UAB) and four games against in-state schools (VCU, William & Mary, Richmond and Norfolk State).

Old Dominion opens the season with three consecutive home games: with Niagara (Nov. 13), Buffalo (Nov. 16) and Morgan State (Nov. 18).

In December, the Monarchs host Delaware State on Dec. 4, before road contests at Georgia State on Dec. 12 and at Richmond on Dec. 16. ODU returns to the Ted on Dec. 18 to host UMES and Rhode Island on Dec. 22.

ODU’s game at VCU on Nov. 28 will be the 91st all-time meeting between the two schools. Old Dominion will battle cross-town rival Williams & Mary for the 87th time on Dec. 1 in Williamsburg, and then on Dec. 29, the Monarchs will welcome Norfolk State to the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The schools first met in 1965, and last played on Jan. 25, 2001, when ODU claimed a 69-62 victory at the Scope. Old Dominion currently holds an 11-6 all-time series advantage over the Spartans.

ODU will take on Purdue in the opening round of the Basketball Hall Of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, before playing either Florida or St. Josephs on Nov. 22.

The upcoming season marks Old Dominion’s third in C-USA play. In addition to playing home and home with Charlotte, Marshall, Rice, Western Kentucky and North Texas, ODU will play single home games against Middle Tennessee, UAB, UTSA, and UTEP and single road game against FIU, FAU, Southern Miss and LA Tech.
