notre dameNotre Dame rallied from 16 down in the final 11 minutes of regulation to force overtime with Duke, and took control early in the extra period in an 84-79 win on Thursday in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Duke (22-10, 12-8 ACC) was up 64-48 on a three-pointer by Matt Jones with 11:08 to go, but the Blue Devils went scoreless for the next 7:31 as the Fighting Irish climbed back into it, finally taking the lead at 67-66 on a three by V.J. Beachem with 2:35 to go.

Brandon Ingram answered with a three to give Duke the lead back 19 seconds later, and hit 1-of-2 at the line with 1:29 to go to extend the margin to three.

Another Beachem three-pointer tied the score at 70-70 with 1:07 to go, and both teams missed on chances to close the game out in the final seconds, the last a wild runner by Duke guard Luke Kennard as the horn sounded.

Notre Dame (21-10, 12-7 ACC) seized control early in the OT period, getting a pair of free throws from Steve Vazturia after he was fouled on a breakaway from the opening tip, and a three from Beachem that made it 75-70 with 4:21 left.

Duke shot 2-for-10 from the field in the overtime after finishing out the last 11:06 of regulation missing 12 of its final 13 shots.

Beachem finished with 19 for Notre Dame, and Zach Auguste had 19 points and 22 rebounds for the Irish, who shot 50 percent from the field (30-of-60) and 35 percent from three-point range (7-of-20).

Grayson Allen had 27 points for Duke, which finished 34.2 percent from the field (25-of-73) and 30.6 percent from three-point range (11-of-36).

Notre Dame will play North Carolina (26-6, 15-4 ACC) in Friday’s ACC Tournament semifinals.
