Notebook: Inside #2 UVA win over Wake Forest

uva-basketball newPlus-minus man: Evan Nolte once again led UVA in plus-minus, with a +27 in his 30 minutes on the floor in Virginia’s 70-34 win at Wake Forest on Wednesday.

Nolte also added some numbers in the traditional box-score stats, putting up eight points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, 2-of-4 from three, along with six rebounds.

Nolte had been averaging 2.8 points per game in 27 minutes per game in the last five games (four starts) since All-America candidate Justin Anderson went down with a broken finger late in the first half of the Cavs’ 52-47 win over Louisville on Feb. 7.

Success on Mitiglou: Wake freshman forward Dinos Mitiglou had nearly single-handedly upset Virginia in Charlottesville on Feb. 14, going 6-of-12 from three-point range in the Demon Deacons’ 61-60 loss.

The 6’10” Mitiglou didn’t hit his first three Wednesday night until the 4:36 mark of the second half with Wake down 61-26.

He ended up with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-6 from three-point range.

Isaiah Wilkins got a good share of minutes guarding Mitiglou and more than held his own in 23 minutes off the bench.

Wilkins, a 6’8” freshman, scored two points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Nice effort on Devin Thomas … again: Wake junior forward is glad to be done with Virginia this season. The 6’9”, 245-pounder averages 12.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, but in two games against UVA this season, he had a goose egg on the scoreboard in the Feb. 14 loss at Virginia, and had two points on 1-of-5 shooting Wednesday.

That’s a grand total of two points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes in the two games for Thomas.
