Northern Virginia: One dead after vehicle strikes tractor trailer at I-66 rest area

One person is dead after their vehicle struck the back end of a tractor trailer at a rest area off Interstate 66 in Virginia on Saturday.

A Toyota sedan struck the back of a legally parked tractor trailer at the Northern Virginia rest area and burst into flames. The driver of the sedan, who has not been identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer, who was resting in the cab, was not injured.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:13 p.m. at the I-66 eastbound rest area at the 49 mile marker in Prince William County, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
