Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire on Churchill Lane at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday.
Fire was reported through the roof of a two-story residential structure by the first arriving unit at 5:08 pm, who was hampered in response due to heavy rainfall and storm activity.
All family members and animals safely evacuated the home thanks to working smoke detectors which alerted them to smoke in the attic space.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Albemarle County Office of the Fire Marshal.
