Next man up: We just witnessed the end of the RG3 era with the Redskins

redskins_scriptrIt ends on a sack. Robert Griffin III lost a fumble on a third-down sack by San Francisco linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the final minute of the Washington Redskins 17-13 loss on Sunday.

The fifth sack of the day, and the only turnovers, sure, it’s hard to say that it’s all Griffin’s fault. The third-year QB was a pedestrian 11-for-19 for 106 yards with a ho-hum 73.6 passer rating in the loss, during which the Redskins were only able to generate 213 yards of total offense.

But it was yet another loss for Washington with Griffin as the starting quarterback. Backups Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy were responsible for the three wins for the ‘Skins this season while Griffin was out due to injury.

Griffin’s season numbers aren’t bad, to say the least: a 72 percent completion rate and 88.0 passer rating. But that ohfer in the win-loss column stands out, as does McCoy’s effective 2-0 record in 2014, one win in relief of an ineffective Cousins and then a win in a start at Dallas on Monday Night Football a few weeks back, along with McCoy’s 107.0 rating.

The team moves better, and wins, with McCoy at quarterback. The front office traded away a draft full of picks to get Griffin three years ago, but the jury is no longer out on his tenure in D.C.

The verdict is in. Next man up.
