New oncology providers to start at Augusta Health Cancer Center

Chris Graham

Augusta Health Cancer Center has hired two medical oncology physicians and an adult nurse practitioner to staff its Hematology/Oncology (chemotherapy) department.  The physicians are Patrick Judson, MD, and Shanique Palmer, MD.  The nurse practitioner is P. Michael Marshall, PhD, ANP-C.

“We very excited about the addition of Dr. Judson, Dr. Palmer and Mr. Marshall to our medical staff,” says Fred Castello, MD, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Augusta Health.  “They are all highly qualified and have great experience.  They will be living in our community, and seeing patients every day at the Augusta Health Cancer Center.  I know they are looking forward to working with our existing staff to continue to provide the highest quality care possible.”

Dr. Judson comes to Augusta Health from Hematology/Oncology Medical Specialists at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania.  He received his MD from George Washington University in 1980 and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  He has many years of experience in a variety of community practice settings and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Palmer is currently an instructor in Medicine and Oncology and completing her Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.  Before her tenure at Mayo, Dr. Palmer was in private practice in her native country of Jamaica.  She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.  She is an active researcher and teacher and has published several peer-reviewed articles.

Mr. Marshall has been an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Hematology/Oncology and a Clinical Specialist for Hematology Oncology Clinical Trials at the University of Virginia.  He has also worked at Western State Hospital, Lewis Gale Hospital and Kings Daughters Hospital.  He has a PhD in Critical Care Nursing from the University of Virginia.  He is active in many professional committees and is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Appointments for these providers can be made by calling 540-245-7155, 540-221-7155 or 877-698-5411. They will begin seeing patients on September 4, 2012.
