Here’s a reason to feel good on your next trek to the Nelson 151 Craft Beverage Trail: the coalition of breweries and wineries made a recent donation to Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA, supporting the organization’s ongoing mission to protect, care for, and find loving homes for animals in Nelson County.
Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA, is a nonprofit dedicated to animal rescue, sheltering, adoption services and community education.
The donation here will help fund medical care, food, shelter operations and adoption programs for animals throughout Nelson County.

“Through donations from individuals, companies and organizations like Nelson 151 we are able to house and care for homeless cats and dogs in Nelson,” said Denise Merrick, the president of the Nelson County SPCA. “Funds support veterinary care, food, spay and neuter, community services, and staff to keep everything going. In 2025 the SPCA placed 62 dogs and 179 cats in loving homes. Without the support of our donors, we would not be able to continue our mission. We look forward to working with the Nelson 151 group in the coming year ”
For that matter, so do I – though I’m not sure you can call what I do with the Nelson 151 folks “working.”
“Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA, plays a critical role in the health and well-being of our community,” said Dianna Rankin, president of the Nelson 151 Craft Beverage Trail. “We are grateful for the work they do every day, and we are proud to support their efforts to provide compassionate care and second chances for animals in need.”
