Nationals win series opener at Atlanta

washington nationalsMax Scherzer threw seven solid innings, Trea Turner was Trea Turner, and the Washington Nationals magic number is now six.

The Nats won on the road at Atlanta on Friday night, 7-2, to maintain their lead in the NL East at 10 games, now with 15 games to play.

Scherzer (17-7, 2.78 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) was handed a 5-0 lead in the second, and cruised from there, allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking two.

Turner (.349/.369/.558, 9 HR, 32 RBI, 26 SB/30 ATT) had a stat-stuffing night, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a homer, two RBI, two stolen bases and four runs scored.
