nationals_logoA night after Max Scherzer no-hit New York, the Mets flirted with a combined no-no, holding Washington hitless into the seventh, in a 1-0 win in the regular-season finale for both teams on Sunday.

Clint Robinson broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh with a single off reliever Jon Niese. Jacob de Grom started for the Mets in a tune-up for the National League Division Series and struck out seven and walked two on 72 pitches in four innings.

Former Nats reliever Tyler Clippard (1-0, 2.92 ERA) got the win with an inning of scoreless relief.

Curtis Granderson broke a scoreless tie with an eighth-inning solo homer off Washington reliever Blake Treinen (2-5, 3.86 ERA).

Bryce Harper was 1-for-4 at the plate to conclude the season with a .330 batting average, and ended up finishing second in the race for the NL batting title to Miami’s Dee Gordon, who finished at .330 after a 3-for-4 day on Sunday.

Harper finished tied for the NL home run title with Colorado’s Nolan Arenado with 42 home runs and was fifth in the league with 99 RBIs.

Harper (.460) also edged Cincinnati’s Joey Votto (.459) in the race for the top on-base percentage in MLB and paced the Majors with a .649 slugging percentage.

Harper’s 10.1 wins above replacement also paced the big leagues. Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout was second with a WAR of 9.3.

Washington, a preseason World Series favorite, finished the 2015 season with an 83-79 record, seven games behind the Mets in the National League East.
