A search is under way to find a 21-year-old man who went missing Wednesday near 45th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach.

The missing man has not been identified.

An initial search was done in the water. However, a tropical storm has hindered the ability of police to conduct a productive in-water search.

Roving shore patrols as well as a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter continue to search for the missing swimmer.

Ocean conditions were reportedly hazardous when the man went missing. A red flag warning is in effect, and beachgoers are advised to stay in shallow water during these conditions.

Myrtle Beach is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning as Tropical Storm Chantal has formed off the South Carolina coast.

The biggest threat will be the threat of rip currents throughout the busy Fourth of July weekend.

Heavy rain and gusty winds are also possible, according to a social media post from the North Myrtle Beach Police Department.
