Two more UVA Baseball recruits have signed pro contracts after being taken in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Luke Dickerson, a high-school shortstop who went 44th to the Washington Nationals, got a $3.8 million signing bonus, significantly above the $2.1 million value for the slot, so, good for him.
Dickerson got more than the UVA shortstop recruit, Caleb Bonemer, who was taken one pick earlier, at 43, by the Chicago White Sox.
Bonemer got a $3 million signing bonus.
We’d already known about the Bonemer signing, so now it’s official – the two incoming shortstop recruits in the Class of 2024 are going pro, for huge money.

There’s no news yet on right-handed pitcher Bryan Meccage, who went in the second round at the 57th pick to Milwaukee, though the indications are that he plans to sign by the Aug. 1 deadline.
The other recruit who has been confirmed as having signed is Trey Gregory-Alford, a right-handed pitcher who went in the 11th round to the Los Angeles Angels.
Gregory-Alford had been a projected second- or third-round pick, and he got money more appropriate to that slot level – signing for a $1.96 million bonus.
There’s one other name still hanging out there – high-school outfielder James Nunnalee was taken in the 14th round by Milwaukee, but has yet to sign.
