Jail Officer Andrew McNorton 1The Virginia CIT Coalition named Middle River Regional Jail officer Andrew McNorton as the 2015 CIT Corrections Officer of the Year.

McNorton was presented the award by Virginia Chief Deputy Attorney General Cynthia Hudson at the fourth annual Virginia CIT Conference held in Hampton on Oct. 20.

McNorton began his career at MRRJ in 2005, and during his nearly 10 years at the jail he has worked in several capacities culminating in his current assignment as a records specialist.

In 2013 McNorton volunteered to take crises intervention training and again demonstrated a commitment to the concept and passion for the program which led to his subsequent selection as a trainer. He completed the Train The Trainer program in 2014 and has been an integral part of the Blue Ridge Crises Intervention Team cadre ever since.

McNorton was selected out of a number of nominations from CIT programs around the state for this recent honor.
