Mental Health America of Augusta presents Community Connections Initiative on “Autism-Understanding These Minds” in collaboration with Dr. Jill Hinton, Ph. D. and Dr. Adam Kaul, M.D., Tuesday, November 29th, 6 pm-8:00 pm in the Murphy Deming Building on Life Core Rd. Fishersville.
Dr. Kaul is a psychiatrist from Richmond, who specializes in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Geriatrics. He has a private practice, and is also affiliated with The VA REACH program Region One and Four.
Dr. Hinton received her PhD in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill. She did a Clinical internship at UNC Memorial Hospital with a focus on autism, working with the TEACCH program. She spent several years after graduate school working in supported employment and social skills training with people on the autism spectrum. She led the Autism Society of NC for several years, before moving into clinical practice and becoming Clinical Director for Easter Seals UCP. Jill also holds the role of Clinical Director for the Center for START services.
The REACH program is part of the community crisis system created to support individuals living with intellectual or developmental disabilities with co-occurring behavioral health needs. REACH supports are provided to reduce the risk of homelessness, hospitalization, admission to institutions, or incarceration through assessment, training, short term therapeutic in-home, and center based supports.
