McCoy’s ‘Musings’ on display at Clementine’s

Harrisonburg-based multimedia artist Ashley McCoy will show a new body of work titled “Musings” at Clementine Café for the month of August.

This will be McCoy’s first solo show back in Harrisonburg since 2006. McCoy will show her new works exploring female roles in society while playing with color. As an exciting addition, she brings a unique invitation to the community; come to experience and contribute to The ArtBox Project 2009.

Part time capsule, part experiment, part traveling art; The ArtBox Project is an exciting opportunity for the community to be involved in a collaborative creative effort that will span the states. Folks will be encouraged to contribute imaginatively to several boxes that will be available, rotating through Clementine for the month. The boxes include basic art supplies, some items for inspiration and will function as a vessel to capture a community’s artistic spirit.

At month’s end, the boxes will be packed up and sent to other communities across the nation, with help from artist friends based in places like San Diego, Seattle, and Brooklyn. Those communities will be presented with the same invitation to contribute and add to what “Harrisonburgers” have left behind. The boxes will travel back to McCoy within one years time and the contents will be displayed for the Harrisonburg community to see how the boxes, with their culminated creative contents, look when they’re back home.

Clementine Café, located in Downtown Harrisonburg, will host an opening reception on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 7-9 p.m. McCoy encourages the whole community to come “Rock the Box,” celebrate and begin the experiment with her at the opening. There will be limited edition stickers available to participants in all cities while they last.
