Maypray honored by Big South

Chris Graham

VMI’s Tim Maypray has been named the co-Big South football Choice Hotels Special Teams Player of the Week for games played during week 5 of the 2009 regular season, as announced Monday by the league office.

Maypray broke through with an 86-yard punt return touchdown to give VMI a 10-point third quarter lead over Gardner-Webb. It was the first punt return touchdown in his career, was the longest punt return in a Big South game, and the third-longest overall in League history. It was also the first punt return for a touchdown by a Keydet since the 2000 season, and the second-longest punt return in school history. Maypray also averaged 25.6 yards on five kickoff returns and finished the day with 250 all-purpose yards.

He has now accounted for a touchdown in 10 consecutive games, and is the first player in conference history to account for touchdowns passing, receiving, rushing and returning both punts and kicks.
