Max Scherzer dominant again in Nats win in San Diego

nationals_logoNats ace Max Scherzer struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings as Washington defeated the San Diego Padres 4-1 Saturday night.

Scherzer (4-3) gave up four hits and walked two, lowering his season ERA to 1.75.

Drew Storen notched his 11th save after Nats reliever Aaron Barrett gave up a two-out ninth-inning RBI single to Padres shortstop Alexi Amarista.

Washington put up a three-spot in the first inning off San Diego starting pitcher Andrew Cashner (1-7), getting a one-out RBI double by Yunel Escobar, an RBI groundout by Ryan Zimmerman and an RBI single by Wilson Ramos.

Escobar, Denard Span, Ian Desmond and Bryce Harper each had two hits for the Nats, who with the win remain a half-game behind the first-place New York Mets in the National League East.
