lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesAtlanta and Baltimore were scoreless into the ninth, but that’s when things got interesting. A J.J. Hardy sacrifice fly answered an Adonis Garcia solo homer, setting the stage for a Matt Wieters walkoff blast in the bottom of the 11th, in a 2-1 Orioles win over the Braves in Camden Yards Monday night.

Wieters went deep on Atlanta reliever Luis Avilan (2-4, 3.58 ERA), the fifth Atlanta pitcher. Former O’s closer Jim Johnson had a chance to end this one for Atlanta in the bottom of the ninth after the Garcia homer put the Braves up 1-0, but Adam Jones singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth, Wieters followed with a single that advanced Jones to third, and Hardy flew out to left on a 1-1 pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

Wieters led off the 11th and took a 1-0 pitch out of the park to dead center to win the game.

Kevin Gausman got a no-decision for the Orioles in a solid effort, giving up six hits in seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, striking out five and walking one.

Brad Brach (4-2, 2.83 ERA) was credited with the win.

Baltimore (49-49) has now won three in a row, and is in second place in the American League East, seven games back of the New York Yankees, and is three games back of Minnesota for the second AL wild-card spot.
