A Mary Talk by the University of Mary Washington on communication in the workplace was postponed from November to January 22, 2025 after the speaker experienced a family emergency.

Participants registered to view the Mary Talk via Zoom do not need to register again for “Prioritizing Empathetic Communication in the Workplace.” by Dr. Kevin Caffrey, who is senior associate registrar at UMW.

Communication skills are a prerequisite for almost any job in America’s workforce and each organization will have a different definition of “excellent communication skills.” Caffrey will share his research on empathetic communication and psychological safety in the workplace, and also discuss how to embrace empathetic communication at every level of an organization.

Caffrey will speak from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.
