Wheeler, Garrett RossThe Waynesboro Police Department has arrested an Augusta County man for embezzlement after he took money from his former employer, the Waynesboro Elks’ Lodge, over a five-month period.

Garrett Ross Wheeler, 30 years old, faces a single felony count for stealing over $3,500 from the fraternal organization, located at 1700 Harvard Road, during the time he was manager. Hired in October 2014, Wheeler began taking money from food sales and bingo receipts within a month of his employment. On April 8, Wheeler resigned from his position after being confronted by the lodge leadership about the missing money.

They notified the Waynesboro Commonwealth’s Attorney two days later who referred the matter to the Police Department for investigation.

Wheeler surrendered himself at the Police Department on May 11.  He is free on a personal recognizance bond.
