Lynchburg Hillcats drop second straight to Keys

The Lynchburg Hillcats tallied just one hit, as they lost, 9-1, to the Frederick Keys on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field.

The Hillcats (14-17) were no-hit through the first 8.1 innings of the game, before Conner Capel ripped an RBI double to spoil the feat for the Keys (14-18).

Prior to the hit, the Hillcats had five baserunners, with three reaching on walks and two via an error.

Frederick opened the scoring in the third inning. Randolph Gassaway blasted a two-run home run, his first of the season, to give the Keys a 2-0 advantage.

The Orioles affiliate added to their lead in the sixth inning. Cole Billingsley led off the frame with a walk, and came around to score on an error. Later in the inning, Chris Clare ripped a two-run single to extend the Keys lead to 5-0.

Frederick piled on with four runs in the seventh. Gassaway was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and came around to score on an RBI double by Jomar Reyes. Yojhan Quevedo connected with an RBI single to plate Reyes later in the frame, and two more Keys runs scored on another Hillcats error.

Lynchburg committed four errors for the third time this season on Tuesday, matching a season high.

Felix Tati (Loss, 0-1) made his Hillcats debut, and allowed two runs on five hits over five innings. Ben Krauth gave up three earned runs on three hits while recording just one out, and Luis Jimenez surrendered four runs (two earned) on two hits in one inning. Billy Strode tossed 1.2 scoreless innings.

Keys starter Brian Gonzalez pitched seven no-hit innings for Frederick, allowing two walks while striking out seven. Elvis Araujo pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on one hit, striking out four.

The Hillcats will look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday in the series finale. Right-hander Micah Miniard (0-1, 4.82) will get the start for the Hillcats and righty Ofelky Peralta (1-2, 4.30) will get the ball for Frederick. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
