London Perrantes is the kind of guy you want leading you into battle

london perrantesScott German and I were doing a Facebook Live recap of the 72-32 UVA win over St. Francis Brooklyn when we saw something we’d never seen before.

Twenty years of me doing postgames at UVA, and Scott approaching 40, and neither of us can remember seeing a player come back out to the court 10 minutes after a game to put up shots.

Enter London Perrantes, who had eight points on 4-of-9 shooting in 25 minutes in the blowout win, but was 0-of-5 on threes and missed both of his free-throw attempts.

And so he headed first to the free-throw line, where he put up what seemed to be about 25 shots, then he went to the right corner, then to the wing, then the top of the key.

We did about a 10-minute recap, then I posted it to the website, we talked for a couple of minutes, headed down to the court to talk with some friends, then headed out.

Perrantes was still shooting threes as we left the John Paul Jones Arena. For all we know, as I write this, he’s still hoisting jumpers.

This is the star player on the eighth-ranked team in the nation, the starting point guard for four years in a program that has been a #1 seed twice in his three full seasons, won two ACC regular-season championships, one ACC Tournament title, been to a Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight.

And after a 40-point win in which he shot 4-of-9 from the field, he shot jumper after jumper after jumper, because it wasn’t good enough.

This is the kind of guy you want leading you into battle.
