Donald Trump is spending $90 million of your money on a military parade in his honor because he wants to be treated like a medieval king.
As the convicted felon whose rich daddy bought his way out of having to go to Vietnam tears up the streets of DC on Saturday, June 14, local activists will be taking to the streets in Downtown Staunton in the true spirit of 1776.
The Democratic Party committees in Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro and Rockingham-Augusta Indivisible are hosting a local “No Kings” rally at the Augusta County Courthouse in conjunction with the Nationwide Day of Defiance.
The Staunton event is set to run from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.
I’m seeing two other area “No Kings” events on the June 14 schedule – in Charlottesville, at The Shops at Stonefield, the site of a future Elon Musk-Tesla dealership, from 12-2 p.m., and one earlier in the day, beginning at 10 a.m., up 29 in Culpeper.
That one in Culpeper should be interesting. Trump, who is, reinforcing here, a convicted felon, just pardoned the convicted felon former Culpeper County sheriff, Scott Jenkins, who was sentenced in March to 10 years in prison for accepting $75,000 in bribes.
Jenkins fancied himself a “constitutional sheriff” who was not subject to state or federal oversight – basically, he viewed himself as king of Culpeper County, until he finished a distant third in his 2023 re-election campaign.
