lynchburg hillcatsWith one out in the bottom of the seventh inning the Lynchburg Hillcats and Myrtle Beach Pelicans were tied 3-3. Suddenly, almost every stadium light pointed at the field cut out due to a blown transformer. The game went in to a 15 minute delay. When play resumed the Pelicans took the lead and held on the rest of the way eventually beating the Hillcats 6-3.

The Hillcats (33-33) scored twice in the first inning. Jose Peraza singled to lead off the ball game and extended his current hitting streak to 11 games. Moments later Kyle Wren singled extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Both eventually stole third base in the inning and scored. Peraza now leads the league with 31 swipes and Wren is right behind him with 29.

The Pelicans (43-21) answered with one run in the bottom of the first. Chris Garia singled to lead off and eventfully scored on a sac fly from Jorge Alfaro.

Daniel Castro drove in the third and final run for the Hillcats in the third inning. Castro now leads the Hillcats with 30 RBIs.

Wes Parsons allowed another run to the Pelicans on a solo homer to Alberto Triunfel in the fifth. He pitched through the sixth inning and into the seventh. Chris Grayson singled to start to the seventh. Triunfel grounded out to second base and Grayson moved to second base. The next batter Kevin Torres singled to left field scoring Grayson and tying the score 3-3. Parsons was then relieved by Alex Wilson.

Wilson threw three straight balls to Garia before the lights went out. After a 15-minute delay, Wilson walked Garia and walked Bostick behind him to load the bases. He then struck out Preston Beck but with the bases loaded and two outs Alfaro drove in two with a double to left field putting Pelicans up 5-3.

Triunfel added another solo homer in the eighth giving Myrtle Beach their ultimate 6-3 advantage. Jose Monegro (2-0) earned the win for the Pelicans tossing four scoreless innings of relief. Parsons (4-3) suffered the loss allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings. The save went to De Los Santos, his fifth of the year.

The Hillcats travel to Salem tomorrow to face the Red Sox at 7:05pm. The Hillcats starter is to be announced, while the Red Sox will throw right-hander Pat Light. The Hillcats On-Deck Show presented by Amtrak Virginia will go on the air at 6:40pm on 97.9 The Planet.
