Liberty football cracks FCS Top 25

liberty-flames21Following back-to-back victories, Liberty has moved back into the top 25 polls for the first time since 2011 as the Flames are ranked No. 24 in the Sports Network poll, which was released earlier today.

The Flames have been receiving votes in both national FCS polls (Sports Network and FCS Coaches polls) during the preseason and first three weeks of the regular season this year.

Liberty’s 56-31 win over Brevard on Saturday moved the team to 2-1 on the year. The victory allowed the Flames to garner enough votes in this week’s media poll to be nationally ranked for the first time since closing the 2011 season at No. 25 in both national polls.

Liberty is also receiving votes in the FCS Coaches poll where the Flames are the second team out of the top 25 teams list.

Bryant, the team the Flames will face this weekend at Williams Stadium, is currently ranked No. 25 in the FCS Coaches poll, sharing the last spot in the listing with Sam Houston State. Bryant is 3-0 on the year and is coming off a 13-10 upset win over then ranked No. 23/20 Maine at home on Saturday (Sports Network/FCS Coaches poll).

This Saturday’s home contest marks the first time two top 25 teams have squared off at Williams Stadium since 2011 when No. 22/20 Liberty hosted No. 13/14 James Madison on Sept. 17.
