George Scott, best known for his days as the head booker in Mid-Atlantic in the 1970s and the WWF in the 1980s when Vince McMahon took the company national, died of lung cancer on Monday at the age of 84.

“He held on right to the end,” said Scott’s brother, Walter. “He’d be the first one to tell you he had a great life.”

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, Scott was fired from WWF after he had a falling out with Hulk Hogan. He booked WCW for a short period in 1989, which was his last run on the national stage.

Before moving into the office, Scott was a successful wrestler in the ring, He and his brother, Sandy Scott, formed The Flying Scotts, winning championships in territories across North America.
