Shenandoah Valley Art CenterThe Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of April, in the Cabell/Arehart Gallery is presenting internationally recognized landscape artist, Kevin H. Adams.

A resident of Washington, Virginia, Adams studied painting at the American Institute in Southern France and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  As an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was recognized for his artistic ability and awarded the title Combat Artist. The U.S. department of State, through its Arts in Embassies Program, selected Adam’s American landscapes to hang in embassies around the world. He was chosen from a national pool of applicants to be the Shenandoah National Park Trust’s Artist in Residence in 2017.

During his inspiring time in the park, he created a body of work capturing the magic of the Blue Ridge, from forests to summits. He was captivated by the movement of the air, the fog, and the light. This body of work showcases both the stunning beauty of the park and his talent for capturing the spirit of the park. Adams stated that the residency allowed him to visit specific locations multiple times for consecutive painting sessions and helped him understand more clearly the colors, rhythms and textures of that part of the park.

He hopes that his work both inspires as art, but also encourages and promotes a growing advocacy for protecting and preserving our National Parks and natural environment. An opening will be held Saturday, April 7, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist! An added bonus will be a gallery talk by Adams. He will share with art and nature enthusiasts, his experiences during the residency for the Shenandoah National Park, using his artwork as a backdrop for his dialogue. (April 25, 2;00 p.m.)

Be sure to check out the exhibit in the Members’ Gallery. The SVAC member artists’ theme is Yellow and will be interpreted through a variety of media and creative ideas.
