steve landesDel. R. Steven Landes, R-Weyers Cave, attended the American Legislative Exchange Council 43rd Annual Meeting on Wednesday.

The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for legislators from around the country to discuss best practices and ways to improve the function of government.

“I’m excited for this three-day conference and look forward to sharing ideas, and learning about policy successes and failures from legislators from all over this great country of ours,” said Landes. “One of the unique features about our government in Virginia is that if a policy is not working or not working as well as we envisioned, we fix it. This conference allows me to hear from a diverse group of legislators and policy experts to learn about issues such as education, economic development, and healthcare among others. I’m committed to provided the best representation possible for my constituents and this conference will provide me with additional tools to do so.”

Today, Del. Landes participated in the K-12 Subcommittee meeting of the Education and Workforce Development Task Force, of which he is a member, and the Fiscal Policy Reform Working Group meeting of the Tax and Fiscal Policy Task Force. Model legislative policy proposals were considered in both meetings. Del. Landes and other attendees heard from former Texas Governor Rick Perry at lunch. Later today, Del. Landes will attend “Threats to Economic Growth: How Cronyism Harms States’ Competitiveness” Workshop. Tomorrow Del. Landes will vote on possible model legislative policy at the Education and Workforce Development Task Force meeting

Landes represents the 25th House District, which includes parts of Albemarle, Augusta, and Rockingham Counties. Landes is currently serving his eleventh term in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The American Legislative Exchange Council is America’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators dedicated to the principles of limited government, free markets and federalism. Comprised of nearly one-quarter of the country’s state legislators and stakeholders from across the policy spectrum, ALEC members represent more than 60 million Americans and provide jobs to more than 30 million people in the United States.
