Kaine casts first vote in U.S. Senate in favor of filibuster reform

tim kaineU.S. Sen. Tim Kaine released the following statement following his first vote as a senator. Kaine voted in favor of the compromise reached to reform the filibuster:

“I was honored tonight to cast my first vote as the Commonwealth’s newest U.S. Senator and I’m pleased it comes in favor of a measure to reduce some of the gridlock that has frustrated all Virginians. The Senate has been in desperate need of filibuster reform and today’s compromise will make it more difficult for a vocal few to block common sense legislation for political gain. While I have long supported a talking filibuster, I believe these reforms will help the Senate function in a more transparent and expeditious way.”
