Kaine camp announces first-quarter money numbers

Kaine for Virginia announced on Tuesday that the campaign raised more than $2.2 million in the first quarter of 2012, and has more than $4.4 million cash on hand.

Since the campaign began one year ago, Kaine for Virginia has raised $7.4 million from more than 19,000 individuals.  In the first quarter of 2012, 6,000 new grassroots donors made contributions of $200 or less, bringing the total number of low-dollar donors to more than 14,000 overall.

“We are extremely proud that thousands of Virginians have embraced Governor Kaine’s commitment to bring Virginia answers to Washington,” said Kaine for Virginia Communications Director Brandi Hoffine.  “Last week, in a show of grassroots strength, we submitted more than 30,000 signatures from Virginians supporting Governor Kaine for U.S. Senate. The thousands of new low-dollar donors from this quarter alone are another testament to the growing enthusiasm for our campaign.

“Over the coming weeks, Gov. Kaine will continue to share his ideas on how to create jobs by allowing businesses to hire and expand, build a talent economy with quality education and workforce development opportunities, and reduce our deficit with significant cuts and strategic investments.  We look forward to continuing to build a strong coalition of Virginians who will propel us to victory in November.”
