James Madison University softball coach Katie Flynn has signed a new four-year contract to stay at JMU.

“I thank the administration at JMU for its continued support of my staff and our softball program. I appreciate all of our support staff, current players and alumni who have contributed to our success,” said Flynn, whose teams have compiled a 195-180 record in her seven years in Harrisonburg.

Flynn started the program at JMU in 2000 and has been its only head softball coach.

The Dukes have gone 70-38 the past two seasons, tied for the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season championship in 2007 and played in the 2008 CAA championship game.

The school also announced the promotion of Kristy Norton to associate head softball coach. Norton has been on the staff at JMU since 2005.
