Jim Ross: Daniel Bryan-Triple H story is ‘gold’

Chris Graham

daniel bryanThe buildup to the Daniel Bryan-Triple H match at WrestleMania 30 is “gold,” former WWE vice president of talent relations Jim Ross wrote today on his blog.

That was the praise from Ross. The criticism: WWE needs to get the other storylines for matches being featured at the event on par with the Bryan-Triple H level, and soon.

“The history of any WrestleMania is that most cards are essentially a two- to three-bout show, and the best ones are where  a non-main line, main event match overdelivers and steals the show,” Ross wrote, citing the Shawn Michaels-Kurt Angle match at WrestleMania 21 and the early Money in the Bank matches as examples.

Ross is right about WrestleMania, or really any pay-per-view wrestling show, being essentially a two- to three show. Think WrestleMania 29, which was basically Undertaker-CM Punk, Triple H-Brock Lesnar and Rock-John Cena, with a couple of hours of filler at the beginning of the show.

This year’s WM card, boiled down to the matches that will sell the show, is Daniel Bryan-Triple H, Undertaker-Brock Lesnar, and John Cena-Bray Wyatt. The main event, right now Randy Orton-Batista for the WWE title, only gets interesting if Bryan is the third leg in what is being promised as a triple threat match.
