There’s no denying that we live in a dangerous world. An increasing number of businesses, organizations, and high-level executives are searching for methods to keep their properties and assets safe from potential threats.

Criminals often prey on the unprepared because they’re easy to target. Recognizing this threat, Jay Hart, owner of MCAlert.net, offers his advice on what it takes to build a successful security company.

Building a successful security company

1. Educate your clients

Building a successful security company involves much more than just posting a security guard in front of a building. It’s also about educating others on how to protect themselves. It should be your goal to provide a constant stream of educational resources to your clients, establishing you as their go-to security expert.

One way this can be done is by sending out a newsletter that educates your clients on how to protect themselves. Jay Hart suggests cutting out industry lingo and explaining everything in clear, concise terms. You want to hold the attention of your readers from beginning to end.

2. Build your business by winning over your clients

In the world of security-based protection, referrals reign supreme. One high-level client recommending your security services to another can go a long way to winning your security business a lucrative contract.

That means you have to leave a great first impression. In other words, your clients need to feel safe when utilizing your services. They also need to feel you’re running a professional business.

If your clients question the professionalism of your outfit in any capacity, there’s a good chance they’ll never recommend you to any of their associates. Provide a high-quality service every time, and don’t be surprised if your clients start referring you to their friends.

3. Make yourself known in your local community

Jay Hart is a law enforcement officer with more than 30 years of experience in the field. He also has extensive private security experience. He puts his knowledge to use by providing informational classes in his local community to help prevent burglaries.

Not only is Hart able to educate his neighbors on the dangers of break-ins, but he’s also able to simultaneously position himself as an expert in his field. This, in turn, helps to boost the validity of his site, MCAlert.net.

If you make yourself known locally through informational classes, speaking engagements, or just getting out to meet your neighbors door by door, you can expect a greater number of people to advocate your business when you eventually branch out to broader markets.

4. Promote, promote, promote!

If you wish to build a successful security business, you should always be promoting your services. There’s certainly nothing wrong with keeping it old school and picking up the phone to cold call prospective clients, but in 2020 digital marketing has proven to be the most effective way to capture new customers.

Social media is a great place to promote your business. You can post images of the jobs you’ve performed (of your guys in action, for example), post practical security advice, and so on. You can also run ad campaigns to drive customers to your website.

That leads us to Jay Hart’s last piece of advice…

5. Create a website

One of the very first things an interested client will likely ask you after initial introductions are whether or not you have a website they can visit. Consumers like to do their own research before making a purchase, especially when their personal security (or the security of their loved ones) are on the line.

Having a website not only shows professionalism, but it also provides an online venue for potential clients to research your services. It also provides a platform where you can capture emails, in which you can further promote your business through a comprehensive email marketing campaign.

Just scratching the surface

The above advice barely scratches the surface of what it takes to run a successful security company. Jay Hart’s decades of professional experience have given him unique insights into what it takes to build a security company from the ground up.

The best piece of advice is to get started when you can provide top-notch security services for your clients.
