Republicans like Jason Miyares pretend to fight against business regulation; and then they fire off a letter to a free-enterprise company telling its board of directors that it needs to follow a hollow-toothed Trump/Musk executive order, or else.

Costco should ‘do the right thing’ by following the law and repealing its DEI policies. Within 30 days, please either notify us that Costco has repealed its DEI policies or explain why Costco has failed to do so. We look forward to your response,” reads a letter signed by 19 state AGs, including Miyares, who is running for re-election in the 2025 cycle, addressed to Costco CEO Ron Vachris.

The letter references Section 4 of the Trump/Musk executive order on DEI, which has the legal effect of a wet fart in church.

This Section 4 directs the Justice Department to report back with “recommendations for enforcing Federal civil-rights laws and taking other appropriate measures to encourage the private sector to end illegal discrimination and preferences, including DEI.”

ICYMI

The Civil Rights Act of 1964, among other things, might stand in the way there, which the night-court lawyers that we have in this illustrious group of MAGA state AGs would know.

They’ll end up filing frivolous lawsuits using millions of your tax dollars that aren’t going to go anywhere anyway before this is all over with.

And in the end, they’ll lose – but in the process, they’ll cost Costco and others who fight these chuckledorks in court money that they’ll pass on to you in the form of higher prices at the cash register.

Keep this in mind when you’re voting in November, is what I’ll end with here.
