Hurricane Ernesto will stay offshore of the United States, but it will cause unsettled weather in Virginia and dangerous rip currents on the coast.

“Ernesto will not affect our weather directly over the weekend, but it will serve to slow down a front approaching from the west,” said Thomas Kines, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather. “The slow movement of the front will result in a few days of rather humid and unsettled weather Friday into Monday.”

The wettest days will be Sunday and Monday.

“Any thunderstorm over the weekend could contain damaging wind gusts and flooding downpours,” Kines said.

The east coast, including Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks, will experience rough surf and rip currents this weekend.

Better weather is on the way once Ernesto moves on.

“After Ernesto gets out of the way and allows the approaching front to move east of the state next week, a cool and comfortable air mass will visit the area Tuesday through Thursday.”

Temperatures in the Shenandoah Valley will be in the 70s with lows dipping into the 50s.
