Harrisonburg man dead in Interstate 81 crash

i81-headerAt 1:03 p.m. Monday (Dec. 1), Virginia State Police Trooper Z.J. Blevins was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred at Exit 235 on Interstate 81.

A 2003 Lincoln Navigator was northbound on I-81. As it took the ramp for Exit 235, it ran off the road and struck the embankment. The SUV overturned at least three times and then struck the guardrail before coming to rest.

Its driver, Clarence A. Hairston Jr., 49, of Harrisonburg, Va., was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
