An 87-year-old Virginia man died Wednesday after a crash at the intersection of Chatham and Beulah roads in Halifax County.

Jesse W. Rone, of Nathalie, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.

The fatal crash occurred just after dark at 6:12 p.m. on Nov. 19.

A GMC Yukon was heading westbound on Chatham Road when the driver was unable to avoid a Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Rone, that had pulled into the intersection.

There is a stop sign on Beulah Road, but there is not one located on Chatham Road.

A passenger in the Ford, Anna A. Rone, 83, and the driver of the Yukon, Jonathan L. Doss, 28, of Vernon Hill, both suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were both transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
