While rural health care throughout the nation is facing numerous challenges, UVA Health is looking to make it a little easier for residents of Greene County to get treatment closer to home.
Beginning Oct. 21, a mobile care unit will make monthly visits to the Greene County Senior Center on the third Tuesday of each month. Patients will be seen from 2-6 p.m.
“We have heard from many residents across Greene County asking for primary care services closer to where they live,” said Novella Thompson, administrator for UVA Health’s population health department. “Our mobile care unit can create access, make it more convenient for patients to get the care they need, and reduce their travel times.”
Among the services offered by the mobile unit are general health checkups, chronic disease management, care for minor illnesses and injuries, women’s health and lab tests.
Walk-ins are welcome. Patients may also make an appointment by calling (434) 297-7800.
The senior center is located at 222 Main St., in Stanardville.
The mobile care unit also visits the Fifeville and Southwood neighborhoods and the Yancey School Community Center in Esmont. Beginning in March, UVA Health will bring its mobile unit to the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.
