Glenn Youngkin is using your tax dollars to try to hoodwink you into thinking that Republicans didn’t, in fact, shut down the federal government so that they don’t have to undo the damage they’re doing to your healthcare.
“The Democrat Shutdown will cause SNAP benefits to run out for over 850,000 Virginians in need starting Nov. 1, 2025. I refuse to let hungry Virginians be used as ‘leverage’ by congressional Democrats. I am declaring a State of Emergency due to the Democrat Shutdown to protect hungry Virginians in need,” Youngkin had himself be quoted as saying in a press release put out by his office on Thursday.
Buddy, you did your part; now, get in the back of the line for 2028, which is where they put you in 2024.
Nobody takes the Accidental Governor seriously, not even his own side.

Reality check: Republicans could have avoided the shutdown before it began at midnight on Oct. 1, by foregoing the Senate filibuster, which is not in the Constitution, is not a federal law, is just something leaders in the two political parties want to be able to use in the future to block legislation that they don’t like.
They call it the “nuclear option” for a reason: once one or the other side breaks the filibuster tradition to get its way, it’s gone forever.
That we’re seeing Republicans loathe to go with the nuclear option should signal to you that they know there’s a political price to pay for what they’re doing.

And what they’re doing is: trying to get Democrats to sign on to the trillions in cuts to healthcare that they put into motion with the so-called Big, Beautiful Bill back in the summer.
The thinking from the MAGAs: if we can sucker the Dems into signing on, the damage that we know is coming is their fault, too.
It’s a game of chicken that they’re playing – with your healthcare, and the money that pays for food for millions of folks who need the hand up to make ends meet.
We’re already feeling the effects of the healthcare part of this here locally – Augusta Health, citing the impact of Medicaid cuts, has closed three of its primary-care centers.

The end to Affordable Care Act subsidies are going to knock millions of people off the health-insurance rolls, and those who are still able to afford insurance are going to see their premiums increase dramatically.
And now they’re trying to literally starve people, in addition to taking away folks’ healthcare.
It boggles the mind that sycophants like Glenn Youngkin feel the need to parrot a party line that is basically a major f**k you to tens of millions of people.
I want to think that, deep down, they know they’re in the wrong, and just aren’t man enough to stand up for what they know to be wrong.
In any case, no, the impact on SNAP benefits that the MAGAs are forcing on us here doesn’t have to be an issue – Republicans could pass a continuing resolution to fund the government as is, with the trillions in healthcare cuts; or, better yet, they could relent on screwing tens of millions of us and go back on the trillions in healthcare cuts.
You read the quotes in that press release that you paid for, and you wonder, how much Orwell did any of those jokers come across in their political-science classes at Regent and Liberty?
“This is an extraordinary action and is only necessary because of the shamelessness of congressional Democrats – including every Democrat in our entire delegation – who refuse to pass a clean continuing resolution to open the federal government,” Youngkin had himself quoted, with the quote adding that he calls on Virginia’s U.S. senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, both Democrats, “to end this nonsense and vote to pass a clean CR.”
The only part of any of what Youngkin had to say that isn’t a bald-faced lie: it is, indeed, “nonsense.”
If this doesn’t reinforce to you how important it is that we get the MAGAs out of power in Richmond here in a couple of weeks, I don’t know what can.
