I keep asking this question: is George Mason for real?

“For this athletic program, our leadership and our players, even though it’s VCU, it’s just another game in conference play. I thought that poise and understanding carried us through,” Mason coach Tony Skinn said after his Patriots defeated VCU, 86-80, on Saturday in Fairfax.

George Mason (16-1, 4-0 A-10, NET: 77) shot 60 percent in the second half, and took control with an 8-0 run that put the home team up seven (63-56) with 7:04 left.

The win was the first at home for Mason against VCU (11-6, 2-2 A-10, NET: 55) since 2016.

Fatt Hill had 16 points and made a season-best 10 free throws on 10 attempts. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists in 25 minutes.

Riley Allenspach added 16 points (7-of-8 FG) and three rebounds, while Kory Mincy notched 15 points (5-of-9 FG, 2-of-4 3FG), five assists, three rebounds and no turnovers.

Jahari Long scored all 14 of his points in the second half and dished out five assists with just one turnover.

Masai Troutman rounded out the double-figure scorers for Mason with 13 points (5-of-9 FG), four rebounds and two assists.

Lazar Djokovic had a game-high 23 points for VCU.
