vmi baseballGeoff Murphy has been named assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for VMI baseball, according to information released by head coach Jonathan Hadra Friday afternoon. Murphy began his duties this past week.

Murphy comes to Lexington from UT-Martin, where he was on staff for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, the last of which he spent as the Seahawks’ recruiting coordinator. He was the team’s pitching coach and was responsible for a litany of tasks, including dealing with player eligibility, on-campus visits and team social media. He spent his first year at UT-Martin as a volunteer, and during that season, oversaw all field work done at its home ballpark.

“I could not be more excited to add Geoff to the VMI baseball family,” said Coach Hadra. “I have known Geoff for a couple of years now and what always stuck out to me was his incredible work ethic and character, both of which are characteristics that we try to instill into our players at VMI. Geoff will be a tremendous coach, leader and example for our players, but will also have an immediate positive impact on our coaching staff. I am looking forward to beginning the next step and getting to work with Geoff regularly.”

Murphy is familiar with the Shendandoah Valley, having spent the summer of 2016 as an assistant coach with Charlottesville Tom Sox, a member of the Valley League. He also worked with camps in both Lynchburg and near his alma mater, Boston College.

Murphy is a 2015 graduate of Boston College, where he was a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, and earned his Masters in Sport Management from Liberty in 2016.
