Generals move up a spot in national rankings

Chris Graham

An up-and-down week for Waynesboro, which included a win at Valley League-leading Winchester, ended with the Generals moving up a spot in the PG/Crosschecker national rankings.

Waynesboro (19-9) is now 28th in the national Top 30 poll. The Generals are one of two VBL teams in the poll. Winchester (23-9) was ranked 12th this week, up two spots from its ranking of 14th in the nation last week.

The Generals’ 8-6 win at Winchester on July 2 gave Waynesboro a season sweep of the North Division leaders.

Waynesboro has a one-game lead over Harrisonburg (19-11) in the South Division. The Generals and Turks face off Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mathers Park at Kate Collins Field.

Harrisonburg fell from the national rankings this week after having been ranked 22nd last week.
