A crossover between eastbound and westbound Route 50/17 (Millwood Pike) in Frederick County is scheduled to permanently close Monday, October 21, 2024.

The crossover is at the intersection with Route 728 (Victory Road). The closure will enhance safety by permitting only right turns between Route 50/17 and Victory Road.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is closing the crossover following multiple crashes and injuries at the intersection of Route 50/17 and Victory Road. Most of the incidents involved drivers making left turns through the crossover.

Westbound Route 50/17 motorists who need to access Victory Road will turn left at the signalized intersection with Route 1092 (Independence Drive) and go south for about 0.5-mile to Victory Road.

Victory Road motorists who need to access westbound Route 50/17 will turn east onto Independence Drive, go about 0.5-mile to the signalized intersection with Route 50/17 and turn left to proceed west.

On or about October 21, VDOT will install traffic delineator posts to block left-turn lanes at the crossover. Signs and digital message boards will advise motorists of the traffic pattern change.

All work is weather permitting.
