Lynchburg scored first, but four straight scoring innings for Frederick pushed the Keys past the Hillcats 10-2 on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The loss snapped the Hillcats’ season-long six-game winning streak.
FIRST STRIKE
In the top of the third, LeVon Washington led off with a double, Yhoxian Medina followed with a single and Clint Frazier walked to load the bases. Joe Sever hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Washington to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead. Paul Hendrix singled in the next at-bat to drive home Medina that extended the lead to 2-0. The Hillcats failed to score through the remainder of the game.
DEUCES WILD
In the bottom of the third, Frederick posted the first of three straight two-run innings. Ramon Ramirez reached on a wild pitch after striking out and came all the way around to score following a single by Josh Hart and a throwing error by Hillcat pitcher Rob Kaminsky that brought the Keys within one. Tanner Witt, who reached on the throwing error, scored from second when Chance Sisco singled to right field to tie the game at two.
In the fourth, a pair of doubles by Wynston Sawyer and Conor Bierfeldt gave the Keys a 3-2 lead. Bierfeldt scored on a RBI single by Jay Gonzalez that extended the lead to 4-2.
To round out the trio of two-run frames, Rob Kaminsky gave up a pair of singles to Witt and Sisco and walked Sawyer to load the bases before Michael Peoples replaced him. Peoples struck out the first batter he faced, but gave up a two-RBI double to Bierfeldt that made it 6-2.
THREE IS COMPANY
Frederick plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as it loaded the bases on a walk by Gonzalez, an error by Eric Haase, and a single by Witt before Sawyer cleared the bags with a three-RBI double that gave the Keys a 9-2 lead. Chance Sisco joined in on the fun with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth that made the score 10-2 in favor of the Keys.
FIRST LOSS
Rob Kaminsky (0-1) earned his first loss as a Hillcat after throwing 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits while walking two and striking out three. Michael Peoples entered the game in relief for Kaminsky and allowed four runs, just one earned, on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. He also struck out six batters in relief.
KEEPING UP WITH THE CATS
Clint Frazier went 0-for-2 at the plate…With the performance, Frazier snapped his longest hit streak of the season at 12 games…LeVon Washington turned in a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a double and a run scored…Washington has recorded an extra-base hit in four of his last five contests…The loss on Wednesday snapped the longest win streak of the season for the Hillcats at six games.
