The Fishburne Military School postgrad basketball team trailed by as many as 11 points in a ragged first half, but the Caissons took control with a 16-0 second-half run en route to an 81-62 win over the Bridgewater College JV team.

“I think our pressure just started wearing them down,” FMS assistant coach Derrick Robinson said afterward.

The pressure early on was on Fishburne (10-2) as the Eagles raced out to an early 12-3 lead and led for all but 20 seconds of the first half. Point guard Teven Jones (a UVa. signee) got in early foul trouble and rode the bench for most of the first half, and the Caissons seemed to have a hard time getting their bearings straight without their leader on the floor.

A 12-2 run late in the first half gave FMS its only lead of the opening 20 minutes at 39-37 on a jumper by Jackson Trapp.

A runner in the lane by Khalil Alford (a Rider signee) gave Fishburne the lead for good at 45-43 at the 16:40 mark of the second half. Those two points started the 16-0 run that ended with a pair of free throws by Cortell Busby that put the Caissons ahead 59-43 with 12:20 to go, and Fishburne led by double digits the rest of the way.

Alford led four Fishburne players in double figures with 17 points. Jones and Jackson Trapp (a Winthrop signee) each had 15 points. Mo Camera (a Winston-Salem State signee) added 12 points.
